Sorting and classifying in math is the beginning of logical reasoning for students. Math manipulatives used for sorting and classifying include plastic figurines that are of varied shapes, sizes, & colors. Some of our most popular sorting and classifying math manipulatives include counting bears and plastic animals or insects.
Sorting and classifying lessons can be focused, or you can allow your students to sort and classify math manipulatives as you request. You may want to use a venn diagram mat for older students. This will not only allow them to sort and classify, but to also compare and contrast the items visually.
